Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is my 4th year teaching 7th grade Math and Science and every day I learn something new from my students. Whether it is looking at a problem from a different perspective or just learning about my students' interests and hobbies.
We are an all-inclusive school, so I have several special education students as part of my classroom and they inspire me on a daily basis with their work ethic and perseverance.
They are always eager to try new strategies and learn through the use of manipulatives and many of them need access to calculators as part of their IEP.
I truly believe that all the students in my Math and Science classes will achieve success in high school, college and career when provided with the necessary tools to succeed. Their problem-solving skills, perseverance, and determination will help them achieve success. They are our future leaders, designers, and innovators!!
My Project
These materials will make a difference to the students in a variety of ways. The Texas Instruments calculators will provide students with IEPs access to the content without having to worry about math calculations. The wind-up toys will be used to introduce the lesson on unit rate. The students will be able to "play" with the toys while investigating the distance their wind-up toy can travel at different time intervals. The algebra tiles will provide students concrete representations of abstract mathematical concepts.
Hands-on experiences with the calculators, wind-up toys and algebra tiles will help enhance student learning because students are involved in their own learning.
These tactile experiences will help their brain create pathways that make it easier to retain information, which in turn will aid students in feeling successful and empowered.
When students experience success, it contributes to their sense of self-worth, which in turn can help them develop their growth mindset, which will lead to further success.
