Great things are happening our library media center. All of the kindergarten through 5th grade students are learning to write code using the CODE Education curriculum. In our new Learning Commons students are creating interactive art, writing code for robots and building air sensors from scratch.
The Mission for our school system is to Inspire Dreams, and in our building, we believe that we inspire the dreams of over 400 children from Pre-K through fifth grade everyday while the students inspire our teachers and staff to be their best.
Our School is a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School and a WV School of Excellence where staff, families and community believe that all students can learn in an inclusive and supportive environment. Together we work to build relationships that will motivate our children to learn at the highest level. This project will impact all of students, helping them become creative, persistent problem-solvers.
Together we are making a difference!
My Project
All students in our building will have access to the new equipment in the Learning Commons which is in our library media center. The 30 Samsung Tablets and 12 folio cases will be used to improve the programs already in place and help start new ones. It will be used to continue teaching of the Code.org curriculum and provide other coding opportunities through the use of apps. My 5th graders write and star in a weekly show called “Tiger News” but have no opportunity to edit. With the new technology they will begin to organize their video clips and make their own shot selections. I want to increase the use of QR Codes in learning centers and incorporate augmented reality to give students new ways to create and share their work. In an afterschool situation, I will use the equipment to allow students to create stop motion animation videos and digital storybooks for a county digital media festival.
Being awarded this equipment will help me improve our learning environment and also help me to provide new, exciting learning opportunities to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in their future lives.
I don't want them to simply interact with the technology in the world that surrounds them. I want them to become creators, innovators and inventors.
