Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fifth-grade students live on the southwest side of Chicago. They live in a community focused on families but unfortunately are also severely affected by the pandemic. The children come to learn each and every day full of enthusiasm and positivity. We have daily attendance rates above 95%! Ninety-six percent of our students are Hispanic and 98% of those come from low-income households.

Families provide their children with as many school supplies as they can.

Even though at times it seems the odds are stacked against them, my students come to school with a smile on their face. My goal is to always provide every opportunity available to them as much as possible.

My Project

This printer will allow my students to have access to various learning tasks. When some of my students complete the primary learning task and activity before their peers, they are hungry for more knowledge. I always have different learning tasks available to them to further support them based on their current readiness level. However, when we run out of copies, this creates a problem. In addition, my students visit an individualized application that allows them to print additional practice if needed. Often times I print the additional practice and give it to them the next day. Having a printer in my classroom will allow my students to have immediate access to these resources.
