Help me give my students gift cards for distance learning awards for achievement!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Shelton's classroom raised $328

My Students
I am the Reading Specialist for our elementary school. This means I get to spend each day teaching fourth and fifth grade readers in one of the best rural schools in Oklahoma! My students are a diverse group with varied levels of learning. Our classroom is a space where students enjoy coming to learn. We are a Title I school with the majority of our students receiving free lunches. Many of my students are enrolled in virtual distance learning this year, while others are attending full time in person.
These students have huge hearts and love to learn in non-traditional ways including room transformations, arts integrated lessons, and project-based learning.
My students have curiosity, creativity, compassion, and positive attitudes. They are truly amazing people. My school is wonderfully supportive of the active hands-on learning that we do in our classroom. I couldn't ask for a better learning environment for these students. We are truly a community!
My Project
I would like to share these gift cards to local restaurants with my students as PBIS-Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports rewards for students who are logging in each day, asking questions, participating in discussions, and submitting work. Distance learning has been frustrating for students, parents and teachers because many feel disconnected.
It is difficult to recreate our sense of classroom community solely through video conferencing and Google Classroom.
Teachers, counselors, and administrators spend many hours doing outreach for those who need extra support. The kids who are making the effort and shining quietly are often overlooked. These gift cards to Arby's, Taco Bell, Subway, Panera Bread, Panda Express, and Raising Canes will be used as rewards for outstanding effort and achievement. Warm restaurant meals to go will be a welcome treat for my students and their families. These gift cards can easily be mailed to those who have opted for remote learning. It will reinforce positive behaviors and reassure hardworking students that their efforts are noticed and appreciated.
