My Students
My students' minds are always being bombarded with such fun and exciting visuals from commercials, movies, and billboards. In our class I need my students to be bombarded with fun and engaging math activities so that they can forget about all that outside stimuli and focus on learning math skills.
Most of my students do not have the necessary math skills for second grade and this reduces their love of school because math is difficult.
This is why I feel it is important that we find highly engaging activities that capture their attention. My hope is that providing hands-on activities for the students, they learn to love school and we create a passion for learning that stays with them forever.
My Project
My students participate in math centers daily. It is while at centers the students participate in independent activities that help improve their math fact fluency. Hot Dots are a hands-on and engaging way for the students to gain their math skills.
I know that with any activity the more engaging, the more students are involved.
Learning is more than listening, it is seeing, hearing, and doing which leads to greater understanding. The Hot Dots games are a multi-sensory independent math game that with increased engagement, will increase the students passion for learning.
