Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hi! I am a first grade teacher at a wonderful school in Charlotte, North Carolina. We have a high number of students who receive free or reduced lunch. We recently had an overwhelming influx of English as Second Language students (ESL). Most children learn to read in first grade. That becomes a problem with so many ESL students. They are just being exposed to English, and also have to learn to read. I have found a product that will help me with my ESL students, as well as my other students struggling to read. The Hot Dot Phonics program uses special cards and 'pens' that talk and give students immediate feedback for correct answers. The cards included in this set are Phonics Readiness, Consonants, Vowels, Blends and Digraphs, Word Families, and Variant Vowels. These cards will be highly motivational to use during center time when I am pulling reading groups. I am very excited to use this product. Thank you for reading my proposal.
