My students need Hot Dots Pens and card sets to independently practice skills in reading and math at their level. These talking pens reinforce correct answers when practicing things like phonics, sight words, and math facts.
Our school is an Artful Learning school with a focus on the performing arts. Our students access the curriculum and state standards through arts based strategies and projects. This year we have partnered with our local university to provide additional experiences in the arts which include dance, yoga, drums, pottery, tumbling, keyboarding, and violin, among others. Our students are excited about having the opportunity to participate in learning experiences they may not have otherwise.
Our students come from low socioeconomic households with a variety of challenges that impede their ability to succeed in the classroom.
The basic needs of our student often go unmet outside of the school doors. Many students deal with behavioral issues as a result of trauma, stress, or other emotional disabilities. Our students deserve to feel the sense of pride that comes with overcoming obstacles and achieving goals.
My Project
The students in my classroom have a large range of abilities and backgrounds. Much of our day is spent in small group instruction. When I am working with students in a small group at their independent levels, the rest of the students need to be engaged in independent learning.
I would like to offer additional independent learning activities for students that are interesting and motivating.
I love that Hot Dots provides learning opportunities in various skills and levels, and because it is self correcting students can easily work on their own and receive instant feedback.
With hot dots, there is no technology to worry about and no materials to prepare ahead of time. Repeated practice of skills is very important for my struggling learners, and I can also challenge my higher learners with different card sets.
