My Students

Remember when the last few weeks of school would come and the last thing you wanted to do was more work? I teach middle school science and find that students don't want to learn anymore information in June. A game center will allow me to press on to the last day of school in a different format.

My students come from poverty where many parents have not even graduated from high school.

Science for my students can be difficult to understand at times. They love to complete activities or anything hands-on to aid in learning the material presented to them. Most of our textbooks are older then they are and those that are newer are in poor shape. A game center will enable an activity center where the students can reinforce the information they have already learned throughout the year. If they do not do well with a particular concept in one of the games, they will strive to achieve more and go back to the topic to do better next time.

My Project

Games from different topics allow me the opportunity to change up the end of the school year in my classroom. Instead of completing packets or book work, I have the opportunity to introduce different games in small groups that will test the knowledge of my students. Any of the games give me the possibility to check in with each small group and see if my students retained the information taught during the entire school year. The games also can then be used through the school year beginning in September as review sessions before a test.

Help make the end of the year a fun and educational one for middle school science students!

A game center allows the students to further enhance their understanding of an array of science topics covered throughout the school year. It not only has them learning but having fun while doing so!
