Hopping Back Into The Classroom Successfully

My Students

I work at a school district that serves a student community that is 90% Native American. They are respectful, motivated, and eager to learn. Due to the rise in Covid cases within our community, our school has moved to 100% virtual learning. In our classroom, my students feel heard, respected and safe.

My Project

Journaling is a practice that has helped my students to love and enjoy writing as 3rd graders. Every day, my students are given a journal entry prompt and they respond to it in their journal. This helps my students reflect on themselves as individuals, and develop their skills as writers. With new journals and interesting gel pens to match, my students will be able to thrive as writers this school year and have access to the materials that will help them to do so. Colorful journals and pens are inviting to my students and encourage them to want to participate in the healing practice of journaling. The school supplies will help our classroom keep organized. Organization is a life skill that many people overlook but it is so important for our students to be organized. For example, binders will help my students increase accountability and help them take ownership of their learning by watching their data grow.
