Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a second grade teacher at Sugar Grove Elementary. My school is a small Pre-K thru 5th grade school in the Houston Independent School District which includes 100 hurricane Katrina evacuees. We reside in a high need, low resource area where most of our students don't get the chance to ever touch or even work on a computer or other technology. I would like to give my students the chance to work with some modern technology. I want to be able to get the students more involved in using this technology. The problem is that although the computer is excellent, it is difficult for 30 or more students to view the small screen all at one time. I am writing this proposal for a new computer that my students can use. I want my students to create and share Power Point presentations. I want them to access state department websites to help them prepare for state tests. I want them to search the web to find useful information to use in research projects. This has been an extremely memorable year and I would love to capture our experiences on a digital camera and camcorder and provide my students with a Memory Book or CD so that they can always remember the unique experiences that we have had this year. This proposal would not only benefit my Katrina students, but also my other students who have so willingly and graciously accepted the evacuees into their lives and their school. Please consider rewarding them with this request so that they can have a chance at success.
