This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an inner city school with a small gym. We house close to 700 students. Almost every gym class consists of 2 classes of 26 students and 2 PE teachers. Our jump rope unit is a favorite of all students and also the faculty.

Our students are inner city children, many who do not get much exercise time outside of school.

The school itself is in a decent neighborhood right next to a middle school. Unfortunately we are not given a lot of equipment for our PE program however, our students are interested in ways to stay healthy and fit.

My Project

My coworker, also a PE teacher, has been running a fantastic jump rope program for over 15 years at our school. It is a 6 week program for all students in the building. The students are lucky to get their own rope to use during class. They are taught many different skills while also getting a full body workout. Unfortunately, after many years, our jump ropes are breaking. We purchased some on our own but the older ropes keep breaking. We have also had the same cart for over 15 years and it is beginning to collapse. We hope to keep this awesome unit going for 15 more years with new ropes and new cart to help protect them when not being used.

Donating to this project will help keep a very well put together program running.

Our students enjoy this unit so much they go out and get ropes themselves and in return are getting great activity at home. Also, many classroom teachers join in the unit and it becomes a community builder. We understand the importance of protecting equipment because we are so limited on funds the new cart will be very beneficial!
