Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright, intellectually curious and eager to ready themselves for their future! We are a Pre-K - 5th grade Title I elementary school with 400+ children. All students receive free breakfast and lunch, many receive free dinner and food packages for non-school days. We are a proactive school with several before and after-school tutoring and community outreach programs.
My STEM and Robotics Club is brand new!
Our students' families struggle financially but everyone is dedicated to helping our parents provide for their children. The educators and support staff are amazing in their dedication and determination to make a difference in the lives of our students. Much time and personal resources are spent outside the standard work day in order to benefit and uplift our students and their families. Our goal is to give each student the very best education and most support possible at all times. We will not fail in our mission and our students share our determination to succeed!
My Project
Gone are the days of the simplistic PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation! As a teacher of gifted and high achieving students, it is important to be able to offer creative empowerment for my kiddos in our efforts to showcase our learning with creative software computing. Scratch is just such a program.
With Scratch, Creative Computing students create animations, stories, and their own games.
Scratch, is a visual block-based computer programming language and teaching tool. It was developed by MIT Media Lab. The rationale was so children could create and then share their animated projects with their teachers and peers through an online platform.
This opportunity to attend and learn firsthand the Scratch program would be a major game changer for my students. Won't you please help me to teach them and spark that creative side in them? It takes a village they say; thank you for being our great neighbor!
