Teaching first grade is a challenge that I enjoy. I teach in a school that has a high percentage of students whose parents serve in our great military. The integration of technology is a great way to motivate students to learn. They become highly engaged when you throw technology into a lesson. My first-grade students love to use technology while learning. Technology has become a part of our everyday lives. Many schools, including mine, are lagging in this area because of funding shortages. The only problem I have with technology is there is not enough to go around. There are so many different ways to use technology for learning. There are so many apps that help students learn and practice necessary skills, create projects, and share their learning with their family.
My Project
Technology is everywhere. Technology is an amazing tool for learning. Many struggling and/or unmotivated students seem to get a spark for learning when technology becomes part of that learning. There are numerous Apps that can be used on iPads to enhance learning. My students are first graders, but don't let that fool you. They love and adapt to using technology well. Many students learn better when technology is part of the learning tools they use to master necessary skills. My students definitely do.
Many of my students have a parent or parents who serve in our military.
There are numerous apps that can be used to enhance and nurture learning. Seesaw is a great app. Students can use this app to share and collaborate what they are learning. Doceri is an app that students can use during whole class instruction. The teacher and students alike can share models and examples on the whiteboard. Epic is a reading app that has countless books and my students love reading these books. Toontastic is a fantastic tool for students to create digital stories that they can share with their peers. The App provides users step-by-step instructions on the parts of the story from setup to resolution. Students can choose to use the available settings and characters or create their own drawings.
As a teacher, I love using technology. I can see the immediate impact it has on learning by keeping students engaged. The best benefit would be for those students who are struggling in a specific area. Using the highly engaging math and literacy apps will benefit my students' learning.
