This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students are amazing, but also come from very low income families. Coming to school is a place where they can play, socialize and engage in learning. Unfortunately, as with most urban schools, our students have to deal with old and outdated equipment and materials compared to their peers in more wealthy suburban districts. I have been at my school for 23 years and in that time, we have not had any upgrades to our portable hoops that we use for physical education and for our basketball teams. They are worn, falling apart and not stable to use.

The physical education teacher and my goal is to update the equipment that we have currently in the gym.

This will allow for our basketball team to better prepare for their games (to have hoops that are actually at the correct height) and for general use when covering basketball in physical education class.
