Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is part of the dynamic, diverse and historic MacArthur Park area in Los Angeles. Our school strives to educate all our students in a college preparatory program to become literate learners, critical thinkers, and independent problem solvers who are agents of social justice with sensitivity toward the world around them.
My students are creative, resilient and hardworking scholars; they come to school every day eager to learn and push themselves to become critical thinkers.
My students are all eligible for special education services and participate in full inclusion general education classrooms.
My students show up to the classroom ready to learn, and they work diligently to meet grade level standards despite the challenges that their disability may present. My students don’t shy away from hard and rigorous content. Instead, they utilize their strengths and resources to meet and surpass the high academic expectations that are set for them. All my students are truly inspiring!
My Project
Math is an area of focus on our campus this year. We are all working to help our students become mathematicians who not only have a deep understanding of math but truly enjoy it! We acknowledge and embrace the fact that all students have different learning modalities and need to engage with academic content through various modes. This is specifically important for my students who truly benefit from opportunities to engage with mathematical concepts in more than one way.
My students would greatly benefit form hands-on math tools to increase their understanding of mathematical concepts and further develop their math skills.
Students will use these math tools to gain a deeper understanding of base ten and number relationships and to increase their overall number sense. Students will benefit from this multi-sensory way to engage with math.
