My Students

Our school is an out of district placement school for at-risk students. Our students are in a self-contained class and are in their classroom for most of the day. They leave only for health, physical education, speech, OT, PT, and lunch.

My goal for our students is to have them learn positive ways to reduce stress, help anger management, and learn healthy exercise options.

Many of our students have been traumatized at some point in their lives and need a way to release their stress and/or their anger. Our students have many responsibilities at home and do not get the proper exercise they need like general education students. Our students enjoy basketball, but unfortunately, our gymnasium only has one portable basketball hoop.

My Project

My students will be working collaboratively with peers to learn basketball skills. My students have many responsibilities at home and do not always get to go to participate in sports or exercise. I will be working on sportsmanship skills in which a lot of my students need this attribute. My students struggle with this and team sports can really help in this area. My students also struggle with their physical fitness and if we can modify a full-court basketball game/skills, this can help with them tremendously in so many ways. Please think about my amazing students and how much use we can get out of this one piece of equipment.
