This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are dedicated to being in excellent shape, working as a team, and striving for success in the classroom and on the court.
Many of our students come from high-risk, low-income backgrounds.
Some students face learning disabilities and struggle learning English as a second language. They are eager to learn, tackle challenges, and absorb new experiences. However, we need additional support to offer our students new opportunities. Our students are eager to be part of a team and be active, however there are limited programs currently in place.
My Project
We are expanding our basketball program to reach more student athletes. We need basketballs, fitness equipment, and a storage closet that locks to keep our equipment safe.
These resources will help our student athletes develop habits of work that will translate inside and outside of school. Through organized daily practices and competition they will learn valuable lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and physical fitness.
We plan to directly link our program to the classroom.
Each student will have individual improvement plans for their academic progress and behavior. Study halls will take place before practices, and students will conference with teachers and coaches. These supplies will help our student athletes become fit and ready for success.
