Cooking brings math and reading together in a way that is enjoyed by all!!! I teach 4th grade in a school which has a diverse population of students from many ethnic backgrounds.
Our students come from many different countries but through the years I have found food and the enjoyment of cooking and eating fun for all even if you do not speak the language. It is a shared experience that everyone benefits. Without the cooking supplies we can not take advantage of this unique learning style.
I need simple cooking supplies. Measuring cups, spoons, mixing bowls and so on. We want to divide into groups and cook so all children can be an active participant. Following directions and increasing the ingredients from 1 to 4 batches of cookies helps with math.
With your help I can bring the simple fundamental learning concepts to life. They will become a team and enjoy learning without even knowing it. Students often ask why they need to learn things and you can help answer that question when they need to apply what they learned to make something delicious.
