Hi! I am a special education teacher that works in a specialty school that services students with disabilities. I work with students that have multiple disabilities as well as Autism. Most of the students require larger pictures and manipulatives in order to participate in daily academic activities. Most of the students that I work with are non-verbal and use picture exchange as a way of communicating their wants and needs, as well as participating in academic activities.
My students are rockstars!

My Project
My students need predictable books and hands-on materials that can be used during small center academic activities. The books that we are asking for have predictable text, which allows us to work on basic communication skills with the students. The answer buzzers are recordable and these will allow the students to have a voice and help them read stories during story time. The puppets will also be used to enhance story time and help the students engage in a story. The hands-on items we are asking for include foam blocks and a See and Say. These items will be used during communication centers and can be used during free play. All of the items that we are requesting will be used for several different purposes throughout the school day.
My students learn best when provided with hands-on materials and these items help enhance their learning experience.
The students become more motivated to attend to work tasks when they have materials to explore.
