This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! Most of them have been at the school since kindergarten, and our school is special because we can really develop a close relationship with each individual student as they grow up.

As a school with a bilingual program, students are immersed in rigorous instruction in both English AND Spanish!

There are numerous benefits to being bilingual and students work very hard to access the curriculum despite it being a challenge. We have both Spanish-dominant and English-dominant speakers, which means that 100% of our students are second language learners!

My Project

One of my goals this year is give my students the opportunity to spark my students' interest in reading by getting them hooked on a book series.

Reading a series of books that are engaging help students develop their literacy skills while also having fun!

They can familiarize themselves with characters in the text and think critically about the many events that happen to them throughout the numerous adventures/obstacles. The students enjoy reading Diario de Nikki and would love to have the books available to them in the classroom. The other book series is one available in Spanish and new to the students which is very exciting!
