Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As we commence Native American Heritage Month, I would like to request a collection of age-appropriate books that celebrate the rich history and culture of Native Americans for my 3rd grade students. My aim is to educate students about the local tribes in our area. Our upcoming social studies unit will also focus on Native Americans, highlighting their history, culture, and contributions. I aim to deepen students’ understanding of the local tribes and their significance in our community.

Growing up, I noticed that Native Americans were often underrepresented in the school curriculum.

I am determined to change this for my students, ensuring they receive a more inclusive and accurate understanding of Native American history and culture. By incorporating these voices into our lessons, I hope to foster a greater appreciation and respect for the rich heritage of local tribes.

Additionally, this material will be integrated into ELD sessions with my English learner students, playing a vital role in their language development. By providing culturally relevant resources, I aim to create an engaging learning environment that not only supports their language skills, but also helps them connect with diverse perspectives and experiences.

These books would help foster understanding and appreciation among the children, and I believe they will greatly enhance our lessons and activities throughout the unit and over the course of the entire school year as we celebrate and honor our local tribes. Thank you for your consideration!
