My Project

I think it is really important for young students to have visual representations of what they are learning in class. Real limb bones are so much more impactful than pictures because they really draw students in and get them interested.

With these Hind Limb Sets, my students will be able to compare the bones of different species and deepen their understanding of evolution.

I requested 6 sets because I have 6 table groups in my classroom. I plan on using these sets as an introduction to homologous features. I will give each table group one set, then have them make observations about the similarities and differences between the limbs. From there, I will have them construct an explanation about how/why some of the limbs have similar structures.

After the initial explanations, I plan on having my students put the species into a phylogenetic tree to show their evolutionary relationships. This will tie together the previous standard (7.5.2) to this standard.

Ms. CLAWSON will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by August 11.
