This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As an inclusion teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my second graders are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Each year it is my goal to create a classroom community where all students can access the curriculum, express themselves, and take ownership of their learning.

The students in my class live in an urban, low-income city, comprised largely of immigrant families. The majority of my students speak a language other than English at home. Despite the many challenges that they may face, these children come to school each and every day ready to persevere and embrace all opportunities to learn something new.

My Project

These materials will provide my students with the essential tools needed to complete their weekly homework packets. The scissors, glue sticks, pencils, erasers, and crayons will give my students the opportunity to continue to practice and retain skills they learn, as they complete their homework.

All it takes is a simple pencil bag full of school supplies to help these children feel confident and reach their goals!

These bags will give the students a place to store the necessary tools needed to complete homework at home since many students don't have the necessary tools or family support to do so. I want to provide an opportunity for success and confidence to each of my students. A family's economic status should not hinder their ability to help their children reach their goals!
