My students need bean bags, a small cozy couch, and some healthy snacks, which sets up the classroom to be a place like home. With these items, my students can settle down and get comfy with a good book!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a phenomenal group of 18 kindergartners at a Title I school. I have a large population of homeless classified students. I have eleven boys and seven girls. Fifteen of these students are English Language Learners. My students deserve the absolute BEST materials in the classroom in all areas of learning to help them grow. They are engaged, eager learners and look forward to coming to school and learning every single day. I want my students to be successful learners every single day. Allowing students to have plenty of resources in the classroom that help them learn is very important to me. Growing and thriving as learners is an amazing thing to witness!
My Project
Many of my students come to school and are hungry because they don't have food at home, can't afford food, and even circumstances such as being homeless. When students don't have food it puts stress on them because it is hard to focus on learning when they are so hungry. Having various food items always available to my students will make a huge impact in their lives, both inside and outside the classroom. I am hoping to provide bean bags, a small cozy couch, and some healthy snacks to set up the classroom to be a place like home. With these items, my students can settle down and get comfy with a good book! Who doesn't love their own little corner with a beanbag and a healthy snack? Especially when they are unable to experience this at their own home. This will create a space where reading is encouraged and invited. I am hoping to create a space where reading is encouraged and invited.
