My students need healthy breakfasts and a fridge to keep perishable food in, toothbrushes and toothpaste, beanies and gloves, and spiral notebooks. Teachers need books to help us with student homelessness.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students don't have internet access at home. They don't have iPhones, and they have never been told they can be innovative. My students have plenty working against them but are really only lacking inspiration. Every student loves learning when it is delivered in a hands-on, exciting way. That's where I come in.
Above all else, I want to inspire my students to see that they can become engineers, programmers, artists, writers, scientists, or anything they can dare to want to become.
Our students are nearly all living in poverty and many are English learners. Rather than lower my expectations, I want to be the one who pushes them, who expects more of them, who not only believes they can succeed but expects it.
My Project
Between 3rd and 8th grade at my school we have nearly a dozen students who are struggling with homelessness. Some are between homes, others have been trying to survive without a place to call home for months or even years. As teachers, we know that these students struggle just getting to school, often with empty stomachs.
With a supply of food, hygiene products, and hats and gloves, we can make school a safe, comfortable, positive place for our students struggling with homelessness.
Knowing there are students who struggle to learn because they come to school hungry or cold breaks my heart, and whatever can be done to end that, we have to try to make it happen.
With a small fridge I can always store food for students who need it, and the gloves and hats will make the cold of winter much less painful, while the toothbrushes and toothpaste will keep any students from standing out for lacking access to hygiene products. We also need some books to help us teachers understand what our students face and better serve their needs.
