Home Sweet Home Reading Bags

My students need book buddy bags to take books home and read nightly.

My Students

Reading is fundamental! The students in my classroom love to read and to be read to. There are tutors who read to my students who then practice reading that same book at home.

My students love to read and always want to take books home.

They love to hear stories read to them and are just elated when I use my personal iPad to read a story to them. it is just great to watch how attentive they become when they are listening and how interactive they are when it is time to discuss the story.

My Project

With the buddy bags and the art supplies my students will be able to read at home since some of them have a very limited supply of books at home, if any at all. Most of them live in poverty and are not exposed to much reading material. I feel obligated to expose them to literacy. The art supplies will help them to make personal responses to reading that they undertake. For example, I usually ask them to write and draw their favorite part, or record the beginning, middle and end of the story.

Research shows that when students are exposed to reading and read daily their ability to read increases.

My aim is to get students reading and loving it. If I am able to get students in the habit of reading daily, they can improve on fluency. I will have them respond to their reading so that they can develop writing and literacy skills.
