Every day, I have the privilege of being able to see two dozen smiling students, eager and ready to learn. I teach in an urban school with students from a wide range of backgrounds. This year, we are teaching and learning 100% remotely for at least the first semester, which makes establishing strong connections even more critical.
Each day, we share favorite books and enjoy stories together, and my students beg to read more.
My students check out books by the same authors as our read alouds, or find their own copies to follow along. Despite the challenges that exist in our world today and the difficulties that remote learning can create, my students work hard and truly strive to be the best they can be. They are truly incredible!
My Project
My students LOVE to read Dogman and Captain Underpants books. The combination of illustrations and silly storylines keep my students giggling - and engaged in their reading.
Diversifying book offerings while keeping student interests in mind is key to continuing to grow my students as readers.
This project will help build home libraries for my students with books that echo their love of humor. Books in series like George Brown, Class Clown and Franny K Stein will expose my students to new characters while maintaining their love of funny texts. Because these books are all parts of series, my students can use one new book they love as a springboard for reading more stories within the series.
Growing home libraries is so crucial during this time when access to classroom and public libraries is minimal. Thank you so much for helping put great books in the hands of my young readers!
