Help me give my students a new dollhouse with accessories including a furniture set, additional builders and posable kids, play area carpets and storage bins.
Let's face it, it has been a challenging two years, especially for my little ones with special needs. Safety protocols continue when working with this vulnerable population. Our usual field trip explorations have been curtailed, a huge blow to my program, as have interactions with other classes, as we make every effort to maintain our bubble. Consequently, our play stations are in "heavy" rotation, which is probably why my aide asked, "How old is this dollhouse?" (I bought it as a hand-me-down 24 years ago, so it's easily several years older.) Although we've taken good care of it, it has been a favorite over the decades and is showing its age. It's time for a replacement.
The benefits of imaginative and recreative play with a dollhouse are numerous and well documented.
They include social, emotional, intellectual as well as fine motor development--critical skills as young children, especially these keiki whose early childhood has been shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, develop and learn to navigate their world.
Included in this request are those items that complete as well as supplement the home: themed play carpets, building add-ons (a common feature in homes in Hawaii), doll furnishings and moveable dolls to engage in the space, and when it's time for the children to clean up, a few storage bins to keep the items collected and protected for another few decades of loving play.
