My Students

"A picture is worth a thousand words," is aptly believed to be derived from, "Printers' Ink" a trade journal promoting the use of images for advertising. My visual and performing arts students would like a means to advertise their talents.

My students are in grades nine through twelve choosing to take visual and performing art classes as their elective in a community culture dominated by athletics.

My students are talented, kindhearted, and inventive. The students I work with design, build, and perform art. In order to supply my students with the basic tools they need to be competitive in the entertainment industry, it is imperative that they create a visual portfolio.

My Project

The California State standards mandate theatre arts students to demonstrate an understanding of the professional actor, director, designer and technical artist (5.3). My visual and performing arts students and I are seeking a camera. We wish to create headshots for every enrolled theatre arts student in an effort to prepare them for real world industry applications. The students will learn the basics of creating a winning headshot as there are many do's and don'ts. When my acting students attend an open call, perhaps to work as a character at Disneyland, they will be required to provide their likely employer with a headshot. In order to make the playing field potentially level, students will need to bring a photograph that exceeds a humble school picture. Similarly, student designers will need to provide a visual portfolio referencing their contributions throughout their high school career.

By investing in this proposed project, we will build our students' confidence and collaborative efforts in the upcoming school year.

Moreover, future theatre arts students will continue to employ the technology in the years to come.
