In a few short weeks, it will be time to welcome students into another school year! As we begin to count down the days, the list of classroom needs has begun to grow.
This year, much like the previous years, the goal is to be proactive.
When assembling student bookshelves, drawers, and chairs, I have found that the tools provided don't always work. While I'm no pro, I need a bit of assistance with ensuring that student resources aren't wobbly. The electric screwdriver and drill will help me to secure student bookshelves, resulting in longer usage and durability. I've done a decent job with assembling some of the items in the classroom. However, no matter the effort, some things are still a bit shaky.
The traps are for the pests that have probably been lurking around the building in our absence. In the months to come, we are relocating to a new building while ours begins renovation. While preparations are being made, the traps will help me prepare for uninterrupted instruction when my students arrive.
I am in need of an additional chair for students. I have my own, but students also enjoy being able to sit in the "teacher chair" to read stories, be a teacher's assistant, or as a reward. There is a lot to be said about having a chair with wheels in the classroom. I have never considered having a fire extinguisher in the classroom. At times, we use a small popcorn machine and do small cooking. I don't anticipate problems, but the mini fire extinguisher can serve dual purposes. It can teach the kids about fire safety while also having it as a precaution. Finally, the mop and container are easy enough that students can use them for accidental spills that happen in the classroom!
