This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Please help me to buy materials about the Holocaust for my school library. The library caters to over 700 children at a K-8 Center. Our students can't afford to buy books for themselves: over 80% are on free or reduced lunch.
This past school year, several of my teachers asked me for materials about the Holocaust. I had very little to offer them. This year, with your help, I'd like to remedy the situation. I received no money to purchase library materials last year, and things look just as bleak for 2009-2010 due to ongoing budget cuts, so we really are counting on the generosity of benefactors like you to keep our kids supplied with great reading materials.
These are the items that I'd like you to consider purchasing for our kids:
1) Five copies of "Terrible Things: An Allegory of the Holocaust". This is a great resource to introduce 5th and 6th graders to this subject. Don't believe me: see the reviews of the book posted at Barnes & Noble's web site:
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Terrible-Things/Eve-Bunting/e/9780827603257/?tabname=custreview#TABS
2) Two copies of "The Diary of Anne Frank".
3) One beautifully written and illustrated book about Anne Frank to be placed in our reference section.
4) A video about the life of Anne Frank that instructors can use in their classrooms when teaching about the Holocaust.
Please consider buying these items! Remember, several teachers have requested these materials over the past year. When we get them, I know that they will be used heavily in our classrooms. Also, by buying items for a school library, you'll be supporting several classrooms at the same time, and supplying materials that will be used and reused, year after year.
