Holocaust Awareness in a Time of Heartbreak and Pain

Help me give my students class sets of a novel about the Holocaust at a time in history when too many students are unaware of the atrocities committed against the Jewish people and unable to understand the significance.

My Project

I am a high school educator in California and am desperate for all of my ninth graders to understand the significance of the Holocaust and how it is connected to the history of our world. Too many students have little to no understanding of the atrocities committed against the Jewish people then and how so many in our world easily dismiss their need for protection in the current time.

I will create a new literature unit that I will teach to my six classes of freshman using this graphic novel, Maus I, about one of the darkest times in history and why we are doomed to repeat the patterns of hate and antisemitism unless we have younger generations that understand that "never again" is truly now.

As the last of the Holocaust survivors are coming to the end of their lives, the responsibility is great to be sure that I do my part to educate my students to have clarity and understanding that hate cannot win in our world.

Please help me bring this into my classroom through literature and know that I will be eternally grateful for your willingness to fund this project.
