This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

While the holiday season is meant to be a joyful time, for many it is a time of great financial challenge and worry. We are a Title I school and our school community is mostly drawn from a low-income urban area. Many of our students' parents are hard-working individuals who are struggling to make ends meet. As a culminating activity to our yearly social studies unit on Holidays Around the World including the Lunar New Year, it is my wish to have a fun holiday winter celebration! I'd like to have a special arts and crafts party with winter treats for my students this year and display our projects and holiday lights and decorations.

As part of our Lunar New Year and Holidays Around the World celebration, and as a theme culminating activity to our month-long Holidays Around the World Unit of study, I'd like to be able to give my students an opportunity to engage in creating holiday arts and crafts, as well as have a theme culminating party with holiday candy, treats, snacks, and gift bags for them to enjoy in class and over the holiday season.

During the celebration students will invite members of our school community to enjoy typical dishes from around the world, game playing as well as treats where we will use the requested napkins, plates and silverware.

Regardless of their individual challenges/special individual needs, my students are eager to learn and have been working hard to meet their academic goals. This holiday season, I'd like to ensure that all my students feel the joy and spirit of the season!
