Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love having arts and crafts that immerse students in the traditions and cultures of people outside of themselves. I want my students to learn how to celebrate each other and appreciate a world that is made up of so many different ideas. I think having time to explore these topics in a fun way like creating a Hanukkah picture frame or lighting the Menorah will give students a glimpse into the traditions of others.
I also think having a classroom party in which students present various holiday traditions with posters that they create, presentations, foods that they make, and other fun activities will really make the lesson come alive.
When students have a sensory experience meaning that they create, listen to, and manipulate various materials as part of the lesson, it makes a more lasting impression.
