Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a barrier-free, Title I school that is home to over 1500 students, with over 70 languages spoken. It is a warm and inviting school with an active and dedicated parent body. It is a wonderful place to learn for both our wonderful students and our dedicated staff! My students are lively, kind-hearted, resilient, and are always ready and willing to learn. They put a smile on my face each and every day, and I cannot imagine my life without them. This is the only career I was meant to have!
My class is very culturally diverse, and have come to love and respect all of the members of our class.
We are a family! Financial literacy is vital for their survival as an adult. They need to be able to grasp the concepts of savings, expenses, income, needs and wants while being able to recognize and write these important concepts.
I am in awe of their determination, and I would do anything to ensure that all of my children develop into the stars they were meant to be.
My Project
The bookbinding machine and coils will transform our classroom as the students will be able to have the ability to make books out of their collaborative financial literacy business projects, as well as their individual budgeting and savings plans. These projects were the highlight of my children's school year.
Despite the surprising and immediate closing of our schools due to the pandemic that has swept across New York City, my students fondly talk about the wonderful financial literacy projects that they developed and had hopes of implementing in the upcoming months.
These projects have been the talk of our conversations despite all of the challenges that they and their families are attempting to overcome.
