My Students

My students come from many different economic backgrounds. Most all come from either single parent homes or homes where both parents work outside the home. My students are more successful when fully engaged in an activity. Most have a hard time sitting still and excel if they are actively involved in a task. Each student becomes one of "my kids" each year and I do my best to meet each student where they are and grow them to their fullest potential!

My Project

Can you sit still for 6 hours a day? While we, as grown ups, tend to MAKE ourselves sit still for long periods of time, children have a much harder time doing so. I am requesting a set of 4 Hokki Stools to use when I pull students to a small reading group. These stools change stationary sitting into active sitting which I believe will help them focus on the task at hand. The base allows rocking, twisting and turning. Research suggests that this small amount of moving diminishes the urge to get up. In today's society where children are used to being "entertained with electronics", this small amount of movement can help the students be successful.
