My Students

As a mild/moderate early elementary special education teacher all of my students are diagnosed with one or more disabilities. Their handicaps include one or more of the following characteristics: difficulty with social interaction, sensory processing disorders (significant problems with organization of sensation coming from the body and the environment), learning disabilities, speech or language impairments, or hard of hearing. My role as their teacher is to help them acquire appropriate socialization skills, sensory processing techniques, and academic skills which will help them throughout their school career, in college and/or in the work force.

My Project

My very special students are not very comfortable in the rigid plastic classroom chairs. They need a way to rid their excess energy and/or regulate while learning, It is important to provide them with various seating choices to ensure they are comfortable and ready to learn.

A Hokki stool is an ergonomic stool that provides feedback to those children who need sensory feedback when learning.

You're moving, even when you seem to be sitting still. The convex base allows for movement in all directions, which is critical to student development as physical movement both increases well-being and encourages the physical and intellectual maturing process.
