Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We stick with a routine everyday. My students come in and complete math minutes. Then it's time for language arts center rotations, math center rotations, science, social studies, specials, and then home. We dance to get our wiggles out! My deskless classroom allows for defined areas for centers. It also allows us room to work on projects. Every child has their own personal space.
I have 18 students.
Three of them are ESOL students. Two students receive special education services. My school has a 60.3% FARMS rate. 34.3% of the students are ESOL students. 11.7% of the students are Special Ed students. Our mobility rate (entrants and withdrawals) is 19.3%.
My Project
This past school year, I went deskless. I removed the student desks from my room and used soft floor seating for my students. It worked wonders! I kept it simple for the first year, but now want to add in other things. "If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." -Ignacio 'Nacho' Estrada. This is a quote I keep in the back of my mind when teaching. Kids these days are very active. To help with that, I am requesting 6 Hokki stools.
These stools will take the place of chairs at my reading table.
The stools will help my students get their wiggles out without getting up. My students will be even more focused. The stools will also help my students with their posture.
