My Students
I am a special education resource teacher at a Title 1 school in Honolulu, Hawaii.
I have a wonderful group of diverse learners with specialized learning needs.
The students in my class are fifth and sixth graders who persevere through the challenges they face with reading, writing, and math everyday. I have a mixture of military children and local children from the Salt Lake area.
Help me on my journey of providing the necessary learning opportunities and materials for my students to feel successful in life, starting with their primary education.
My Project
My students need items in the classroom that will help them to block out distractions so they can focus on learning. Many of the students in my classroom have been diagnosed with an attention deficit. Helping them to limit distractions and zone into the task at hand will help them to be more self-directed, effective communicators, and complex thinkers. These items will also help me as a teacher to figure out what my students really know.
With such wiggly bodies, my students need tools that will help them to control their behaviors and focus their thoughts.
Noise cancelling headphones and partitions will help them during assessments and individual tasks to limit audio and visual stimuli. Wobble seats will give them the comfort and movement they need to work hard when they're at their desks.
