Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our minority student enrollment is 95%. The student-teacher ratio is 26:1, which is worse than that of the district. With 82% of our students considered economically disadvantaged students, bridging the gap between home and school is crucial to the success of my students. Ensuring students have the resources at home and school to achieve success is crucial.
My goal is to make the most of every instructional minute we have together!
These supplies and resources will help ensure we are organized, prepared, and have supplemental materials to engage students.
Each student brings a unique perspective and deserves the opportunity to contribute to the best of their ability. My philosophy is to set children on a path to success by scaffolding and challenging each to meet individual goals. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and developing trust to encourage each child to thrive. I strive to build a school-home connection with my students and their families.
Over the summer I had the opportunity to attend a 30-hour Orton Gillingham training, thanks to DonorsChoose! I learned new strategies for teaching phonics and improving my student's literacy skills. The phonics through poetry books in this project will help to supplement the IMSE OG curriculum through literation. The books, Q and U get married and Not so lazy Schwa will help reinforce the concepts taught. The binding combs will help me make our own red word books for sight word instruction. The easel paper will help to anchor our learning.
