This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you ever listen to yourself on a recording and say "that's what I sound like?!" As musicians the same runs true... we need to hear our performances in order to become better musicians.
I teach over 250 band students at a Title one school in Florida.
This large program is actually a huge accomplishment and I am very proud of the size of my program but sometimes it can be overwhelming and that is why your help is greatly needed! Help me better give my students the attention they deserve and help my students be better at assessing themselves as musicians!
My Project
There are a few ways we can benefit from having these handheld recording devices in our band classroom. One way is by allowing students to record themselves individually in a practice room so that I may listen and provide INDIVIDUAL feedback. With each class period ranging from 30-60 students it is difficult to provide the individual attention that each student deserves and so this would better give me a chance to do so.
The other beneficial part to having the handheld recording devices is allowing students to HEAR what they actually sound like when they play both as individuals and as an ensemble. Students can then critique their performance and make it better. Hearing is truly believing in any music class and the more the students hear the better we will become in the end!
A project like this can only benefit our program.
Technology is continuing to become an essential part of education and this is only one small step for my students to become engaged in it. Help my students do more than play notes and rhythms. Help them become true musicians who can accomplish more than they imagined.
