This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project is aimed to bring a longtime vision of mine into the classroom. I am aiming to make this vision a reality.
My "History Through Music" project is going to inject creativity and fun into my classroom.
Many of my students have a passion and love for music, however their knowledge of different genres or artists is very low. I believe students can learn a lot about specific time periods through the music that was produced. Artists use their music to tell stories and send messages that can be valuable and relatable for my students. It gives them a look into the past to see the struggles and successes of those that came before them.
This project will begin by hanging the vinyl covers along the back corner wall, showcasing various artists throughout history while promoting different cultures and beliefs. Then, either when students are working or as an activator/Do Now activity, I would play a record. I would provide students a copy of lyrics and play a specific song that relates to themes of the lesson. Afterword, kids can write reflection and connection pieces. For jazz music, I can put it on as students work. Many students respond well to music when working during class. I am super excited to build this section of my class.
