This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you realized just how big the U.S. and the World really are? Well, Geography, Map Skills, and other tools dealing with this subject have faded away over years and with these maps I will be able to reverse this trend.

I teach 8th grade Social Studies and I have a great group of kids.

I watch each of them begin to take those final steps to becoming young adults. This last year has presented me with a new set of challenges as a teacher. The school I work in is a turn around school in a low income area, in a building that is extremely old, in an area with a large presence of drugs, violence, and other concerns that have made teaching extremely challenging. Add this to the small budget and it has created a setting where I have to be extremely creative with the limited resources I have at my disposal and have been able to make things work but by adding these maps I can focus more on teaching the skill and less on how I can create the material to teach the skill.

My Project

Teaching 8th grade history means teaching a content that is mainly focused on early American history from Colonies to the Industrial Revolution. This expansive time period is packed with events all over the world and the United States. These maps will give students the ability to see just how the country grew, the distance covered by explorers, etc. Also students will be able to come up and illustrate on the map to show they have an understanding of the material. Overall this will just be a quality resource that will work with all Social Studies/History material and offer support to reading material.

Making a donation to my project will have a significant impact on students in a wide range of areas.

My students have been taught very little about Geography and the world outside of their neighborhood. They have been robbed of an understanding of the geographic wonders of the world and also have a poor concept of the distance from here to just about any place in the world as well as what each continent offers and where its located. The difference you could make here is endless.
