History for Newcomers

Help me give my students equal access to comprehensible historical texts in English.

My Project

History is a literacy-intensive course. Students need to read documents and form arguments. This is very challenging to do in a second language. Because of this difficulty, students need comprehensible historical materials. The "What was..." book series is perfect for Newcomers. The simplified language will help them build their English while gaining historical knowledge.

Completing this project will give my students access to vital social studies materials in a comprehensible format.

My students are truly wonderful people and are very appreciative of their opportunity to learn. I know this gift would mean the world to them.
