My Students

We live in a visual society. Children these days need visual stimulation in order to be engaged in classroom activities. In my history class, we work through higher-level thinking and college-level literacy activities, but sometimes are missing that key component of visually stimulating resources.

My students are living in an impoverished community in Illinois.

Our school is a neighborhood school where students in the community are free to come here regardless of ability level or income. The classroom is an inclusion class that contains both general-education and special-education students. My students range from grade-level readers to those who can not read at a 1st grade level. We also have a large population of students who are visually impaired and cannot afford the exams or glasses. In order to differentiate my instruction to reach all students, the use of visual aides is crucial.

My Project

To assist in reaching all students of varying ability levels, the use of an LCD projector is more than a piece of technology for enrichment. It is a necessity. These students live in a society where technology is utilized in every day-to-day task. Having a classroom that functions with only books, paper, and a pencil, will cause an even greater achievement gap. With students who are reading at elementary levels, the supplement of images, videos, and interactive websites, will allow for them to access the curriculum, while also giving them access to the use of technology. It is imperative for my students to have this resource in the classroom in order for all students to succeed.

An LCD projector is necessary because technology such as this is powerful in helping close the achievement gap of students who can not access important curriculum because of low literacy skills.

Not only will this help in increasing those particular skills, but this technology is relevant to encouraging strong engagement in the interactive lessons that I deliver.
