My students are living in an impoverished community in Illinois. Our school is a neighborhood school where students in the community are free to come here regardless of ability level or income. The classroom is an inclusion class that contains both general-education and special-education students. My students range from grade-level readers to those who can not read at a 1st grade level. We also have a large population of students who are visually impaired and cannot afford the exams or glasses. In order to differentiate my instruction to reach all students, the use of visual aides is crucial.
