FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Hipp's classroom raised $908

My Project

This collection of books spans historical topics, including biographies of Larry Itliong and Bayard Rustin, graphic memoirs We Hereby Refuse and March, and non-fiction adapted for young readers including Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism, and You, A Different Mirror for Young People, A Queer History of the United States, and an Indigenous History of the United States.

Having a diverse classroom library of historical texts will foster opportunities for student agency in both the content they learn and the type of text they learn from.

By having a classroom library, students will be exposed to a variety of historical texts so that they can be exposed to a variety of perspectives and ways of storytelling. Graphic novels and the Spanish edition of Stamped will support multilingual students in access rigorous, grade level texts in an accessible way. Student choice in what texts they explore will foster student engagement and help more students see themselves reflected in history they learn.
