My Project

In the middle of April, I will be teaching a historical fiction reading unit to my 6th grade English classes using the novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I currently have about 35 copies, but need to provide a copy of the book for 88 students.

This book will allow me to teach students the main character's relationship to a particular historical conflict, how to analyze how characters respond to trouble, how the protagonist's traits often collide with the expectations or demands of the era in which the story is set, that the perspectives of characters can change and these changes often lead characters to see injustices of which they were previously unaware.

Students will use this book for independent reading, activities throughout the unit, book talks and a project at the end of the unit.
