Our Student Council officers are champions of organization, hard work, and consistent drive to make the school better for everyone. They have a sometimes thankless job, with very public failures and roles that make them open to criticism from everyone. However, they use that feedback to improve and they never lose their drive to create meaningful programming for the school.
Our Student Council operates on a $0 budget and has no resources other than what the students earn or create themselves.
Within those limited means, they have found a way to create spirit weeks, dances, opportunities for cultural exchange, and are planning a school-wide drive to provide clean water to schools in Swaziland. They manage school, work, and intense family responsibilities to show up for their commitments and follow through on making our school a better place.
For the first time this year, our Student Council has created the role of Historian. Their job is to document our work throughout the year and share it with the student body. Officers have identified a disconnect between the work they do and the perception of their role from the student body. In addition, they sometimes find it difficult to solicit constructive feedback from the whole school.
With this iPad mini, students will be able to use the Apple suite of apps as well as social media tools to create and share meaningful content with their peers.
They can use iBooks to create interactive stories documenting events, iMovies to show the process and work that goes into planning dances and assemblies, and social media to share their creations. By having one place for us to store all our photos, videos, and creations, we will also streamline our work process. There will be a central location for everything to be housed and we won't lose access due to graduation or other changes.
