Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi! I am a fifth grade teacher in an elementary school in Brooklyn, New York.
One of my passions is teaching social studies. One of the reasons I teach fifth grade in my love for American History!
In our school we have very limited resources. We simply do not have the money to purchase sets of books and various resources for our class. As a result of this children are the ones who suffer. I began requesting photocopies of books and magazines to teach government and politics but I was told that they would no longer be making copies because it costs too much money to maintain the copy machine. So once again I am back to having no resources to teach with!
The ongoing project I am planning will allow students to become historians. They will research at the library and bring in resources that they will present to the class by using an LCD projector. This will project the image of any book, article, picture, or primary source right up onto the screen for the entire class to view and discuss the content. There is no copying and no wasting paper! Students can use this for class presentations while becoming real life historians and presenting primary, secondary sources of information for the entire class.
The final product will be a readers theatre play of a time in history; either during the Westward Expansion or Civil War era. We hope that you will take our proposal into consideration!!!
